I was involved with an effort to build a “business class Internet” based on IPX back in the late 90s. It never caught on despite the obvious superiority of the Novell protocol suite.
While I have nothing against Internet toll roads per se, I see them as an adjunct to, not a replacement for, the more open model of ubiquitous connectivity.
